2023 was a year that just seemed to fly by at the library. It has been gratifying to see the increase in library visits (up 21% from 2022), as these were slow to recover from our closure during the lock-down period of the Pandemic in 2020. Our circulation of books increased modestly in 2023 (by 3%) and our circulation of movies (DVDs and Blu-ray discs) increased by 175% – could it be that some of our patrons are opting to save money and view our movies instead of paying to stream them?
Library patron usage of on-line magazines, e-books and e-audiobooks through the Libby app was up 25%! We, at the library, are quite happy to see that people are enjoying our services both in person as well as virtually, online. If you haven’t taken a moment to review our online streaming options, we encourage you to visit our website and get to know what’s available. In addition to the books and magazines just mentioned, there is Hoopla (another way to find e-books, e-audio books and even some streaming video content); Kanopy (to stream movies, documentaries and television), Consumer Reports on-line, and much more.
Some of our best-attended programs in 2023 included a Ted-X Talk in January (60 people attended); Truck Day in May (over 300 attendees!); a Rivertowns Repair Café in June (over 70 participants); and a jazz trio playing the music from the Charlie Brown Christmas special in December (76 people attended). We invite you to visit our website and sign up for our newsletter so that you can be kept up to date about all the wonderful things happening at the library!
