A Change to Hold Notifications

Starting November 30, 2026, the Westchester Library System will no longer offer WLS by Phone. If you usually get a phone call or a voicemail when your holds are ready, contact your home library to be set up for email or text notifications.

The WLS Mobile App is Changing on Oct. 20

Why the change? We know the app hasn’t always worked the way it should, so WLS is moving to a new, more reliable version. Many of you have been logged out unexpectedly, had the app freeze or crash, or seen it stop updating. WLS heard you, and have partnered with the app vendor Solus on a new platform that should work much more smoothly.

If you would rather not use an app at all, you can still do everything in the online catalog through your phone’s browser: access your library card and manage your preferences, place and manage holds, and view and edit lists and reading history at opac.westchesterlibraries.org. iPhone & iPad users:

Starting Tuesday, October 20, download a new app called Solus Library App from the App Store. Open it, search for The Westchester Library System, and log in with your library card number and PIN.

Why is it different for iPhone and iPad? On Android, the new version comes as an update to the app you already have. On Apple devices, we’re still working to publish our own app in the App Store. Rather than ask you to wait with an app that isn’t working well, we’re inviting iPhone and iPad users to use the Solus app in the meantime. You’ll have the same library access as Android users. We’ll let you know as soon as a WLS app for Apple devices is ready, along with any steps you’ll need to take.

Android users:

Starting Oct. 20, the new version arrives as an update to the app you already have. If auto-updates are on in the Google Play Store, it will install on its own. If not, open the Play Store, search “WLS Mobile,” and tap Update. Then log in with your library card number and PIN.

What carries over? Good news: your library card number, linked accounts, holds, and checkouts will all move over automatically. Lists and reading history aren’t in the new app just yet, since those features are still being developed. Don’t worry, they’re safe! You can view and edit them anytime by logging in to the library catalog in your phone’s web browser at opac.westchesterlibraries.org.

Got a WLS library card? You can now watch thousands of films, including The Criterion Collection, for free with your library card! This service also includes Kanopy Kids, which is unlimited! Simply visit https://wls.kanopystreaming.com/, sign-up for an account, and get watching. Hundreds of films are added to the collection each month.

Cardholders start the month with a number of "tickets" which can be used on Kanopy's collections. Kanopy Kids is unlimited.

You can watch Kanopy in your web browser, through the Kanopy mobile apps, and on your TV with Roku or Chromecast.
